Passionate about singing?

When you're passionate about something, then sometimes it seems like the whole world revolves around your vocation. Be it singing, learning a language, travelling or exploring fresh food combinations and culinary possibilities in the kitchen, it's something that you're willing to put your heart and soul into - which is ideal, because practise makes perfect!

The great thing about song and music is that it's all around us: from the first waking moments with an alarm clock radio, to the close of the day with a television programme featuring popular music either in a medley of songs, an artist profile or even just as simple as the theme song of your favourite show. Throughout towns and cities all over the world it's furthermore possible to take the opportunity to check out some live music in local pubs or clubs. Although this has been on the decline in recent years, there remain venues throughout that are as dedicated to live music and performance as you are - it's just a matter of checking out local street press or going by word-of-mouth from close friends or acquaintances who share your taste in music and performance.

If you were learning a language, this kind of background research would be called homework, but when it comes to singing it's easy and fun to indulge your interests even in a social setting. You don't need to chase down someone selling tickets for the international extravaganza concerts of the world's top stars either, as local venues often put you in much closer contact with performing artists who are then able to share their gift and passion on a much more intimate level. In a stadium of thousands, it's more about the spectacle rather than the song, so by opting to conduct your singing "homework" close to home you're ensured a more "up close and personal" experience with those who are similarly dedicated to lyrical harmonies and vocal melodies.

Of course that doesn't mean to avoid buying concert tickets for your favourite popular acts, but just a reminder that's it's as much about the local as the global. To learn a new skill - musical, linguistic, cultural or culinary - it pays to really immerse yourself in your studies, but that doesn't necessarily mean hitting the books. It could simply be singing in the shower or going out with friends to see live performances. Have fun while learning and unearth that hidden talent!
